Has anyone built flatop guitar using the double top theory as used on classical guitars by builders like Smallman? Using Nomex for example. If not why not? Is there any reason that it's only brilliant on classical guitars and not on steel..do the same 'scentific' principles not apply. If anyone has tried it ..how didi it turn out? |

Raj, I have done it and they sound very nice. Very even and resonate. I'm in the middle of one right now. If you interested in trying it, I'd say go for and I don't think you'll be disappointed. Here's a photo of the way I install the core. I found that in my research talking with Gernot Wagner, Randy Reynolds and Fritz Mueller that everyone has a differnt take on how much core to use, they're also classical builders. Any way, this is what I do and have had good results. ![]() |

Charles Fox is building Nomex "double top" steel strings and has been doing so for the last 2 years. He has been getting very favorable reviews from players as well. He will be showing that at the GAL conference and had them at Healdsburg last year. |
